Combining families, cultures and traditions this holiday season?

Holidays are great, but sometimes getting together with families who don’t speak the same languages and have very different cultural customs can be stressful. I believe communication is key here. It’s vital to talk to your partner/spouse and your own family about these differences ahead of time, so both sides have time to emotionally prepare and manage their expectations. It is important to remember to be kind and curious about cultural customs that you may not understand. Sometimes our families can be stubborn and unwilling to be flexible. If that does happen, then we need to be aware of our own internal emotional responses and find out how we can meet them where they’re at, but also setting our own boundaries.
