During this transitional time of year, finding balance between the demands of work and being present at home is a challenge that I help many men manage.
Here are a few strategies that many of my clients utilize when beginning to balance all their responsibilities and demands.
-
First, try to maintain open and honest communication with both your employer and your family. Making it a priority to discuss your demands and commitments in advance helps set you up with the support and understanding you might need.
-
Second, establish clear boundaries between work and home life. Set up routines and schedules that turn off work related notifications during family time so that you can be fully present and less distracted.
-
Third, don’t forget your self-care. Prioritize regular body movement, adequate sleep and making time for hobbies that bring you joy. Men often don’t prioritize self-care, however, it’s one of the best ways to feel better about yourself.
Managing the demands of work and home life is an ongoing journey, but by implementing some changes you can make an impact on your well being, increase relationship satisfaction and ultimately, lead to a more fulfilling and harmonious life.
